Overview We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our Senior Center culinary team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting meal preparation and ensuring the kitchen is orderly, cleaned, and all equipment prepped.

Responsibilities

• Keep the dishes sanitized, clean and ready for use, and for the daily cleaning of all used kitchen pots, pans, and other equipment.
• Ensures that the dining area is set-up for daily congregate meal service.
• Maintain an accurate and ongoing inventory of food and supplies.
• Follow directions regarding proper meal preparation.
• Assist with proper storing of food and supply items.
• Keep daily, bi-weekly, monthly and annual logs updated, including temperature logs for the refrigerator and freezer.
• Assist with clean-up of the kitchen.
• Responsible for the daily housekeeping of the Senior Center.
• Must be able to lift heavy objects.
• Assists with the daily signing in of elders and guests, including collecting any meal fees, and delivering home-bound meals as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
• Help with inventory management by checking stock levels and reporting shortages to supervisors.
• Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Experience

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a restaurant or commercial kitchen is preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of culinary techniques and food handling practices is advantageous.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn from experienced culinary staff.
• A passion for cooking and an eagerness to develop culinary skills further are highly valued.
• Must have or willing to obtain a Food Handler's and ServSafe certification.

Pay: $14.42 - $17.22 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
